MANUAL THERAPY

Mobilisation and Manipulation

The aim of manual therapy is to assist the joints and soft tissue to regain its full range of movement and to ease pain. Different manual therapy techniques are used to address muscular shortening, trigger points or muscle knots. Joint mobilisations are helpful to assist with joints which are not achieving full movement

  • Joint Mobilisation or Manipulation
  • Massage
  • Trigger point Release
  • Stretching
  • Mulligans assisted mobilisation therapy
ORTHOTICS

Mobilisation and Manipulation

Orthotics are specific foot orthoses which are used to help in the management of a range of injuries from plantarfascitis, flat feet, knee pain, hip pain and bunions. At Focus Physio and Sports injuries, we are partnered with PPL Bio mechanics in Cork. All of our physiotherapists have under gone extensive training on the bio mechanics assessment of foot position and movement patterns.

Orthotics range from shorten term non prescription devices which start at €15 to custom made prescription orthotics which range up to €300.

We provide expert advice on the use of the device and a comprehensive strengthening program to address any secondary muscular weakness which may have resulted from poor foot bio mechanics.

DRY NEEDLING

Mobilisation and Manipulation

Dry Needling, also known as Trigger Point Needling, is an effective and efficient technique for the treatment of myofascial pain and dysfunction.

Dry needling is especially effective in those areas which are muscle dense, e.g. gluteals and hips. Deep tissue treatment in these areas can sometimes be uncomfortable, tender and can bruise the tissue due to the pressure applied trying to reach the deeper layer of muscles. However, with the dry needling the therapist can go straight to the area that needs to be treated without causing bruising or exquisite tenderness.

KINESIOLOGY TAPE

Mobilisation and Manipulation

Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive. Therapeutic kinesiology tape that can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions.
Kinesiology tape is almost identical to human skin in both thickness and elasticity, which allows kinesio tape to be worn without binding, constricting or restriction of your movement.

ELECTROTHERAPY

Mobilisation and Manipulation

Therapeutic ultrasound is a modality that has been used by physiotherapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel.
Therapeutic ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in:

  • healing rates
  • tissue relaxation
  • tissue heating
  • local blood flow
  • scar tissue breakdown
SPORTS INJURIES

Mobilisation and Manipulation

At Focus Physio and Sports Injuries, we understand the importance of sports and physical exercise as a part of healthy living. Not only do we understand the importance of returning to sport as soon as possible in a safe manner. We are strong advocates of injury prevention strategies. Our physiotherapists have both played GAA, Soccer, ran full and half marathons and rock climbing.

We have on field immediate management training and cover matches. We have worked at club level, inter county and with professional sports.

We provide specific strengthening, flexibility and functional movement assessments. We also use 2D analysis to assess joint movement.

EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION

Mobilisation and Manipulation

A personal prescribed exercise program is an essential part of Physiotherapy treatment. All of our exercise programs are Specific to your injury. This will speed recovery and reduce the risk of reinjury. All of our exercises are demonstrated and taught in our Rehabilitation Gym and you will be provided with a Salaso account free of charge so that you can watch you video to ensure correct technique and monitor your progress.
